I’ve lived with scalp psoriasis for years, and while it’s never easy, I’ve learned to manage it. However, a recent experience at the hairdresser’s left me feeling humiliated. During my trim, the stylist stopped and said, “Wow, your scalp is a mess.” When I explained I have psoriasis, she responded sarcastically, “Have you tried using something for that? Looks like you really need it.”
Instead of offering understanding or asking how to help, she made me feel self-conscious and dismissed my condition. Psoriasis is something I can’t simply get rid of, and it was frustrating to be treated as if it was something to be ashamed of.
Hairdressers should be compassionate and respectful, especially when dealing with visible conditions like psoriasis. A little empathy would go a long way in making clients feel comfortable. I only wish the stylist had shown more care and understanding instead of judgment.
