I struggle to explain

I’m 50, living in Belfast, and for the past few weeks, I’ve had this fierce itch. My skin’s all red and dry, and no matter how much I scratch, it just gets worse. I struggle to explain myself sometimes, so it’s been hard to get help.

Finally, I thought I’d bite the bullet and go to the doctor. I couldn’t explain myself properly, but I pointed at my skin and said, “Itchy. All over. Red.” She took a look and said I’ve got psoriasis, though I didn’t know what that was. She gave me some cream and told me to use it.

Back at home, I slathered on the cream, and after a while, the itch started to ease. It’s not completely gone, but it’s a good bit better now. I’m grateful for the doctor’s help. Even though I sometimes have trouble explaining myself, I’ve learned that with a bit of care, I can manage this. Could’ve been worse, so I’m grand now.
