Constant dry skin and dandruff
I have managed to get my scalp patches under control but I am left with constant dry skin and dandruff and I really don’t know what to do. I can’t touch my head without flakes dropping onto my clothes. I use Betacap on flare ups and use a shampoo but dont know what to do for the best now. I hate it. How do I know what I should I do next.
Betacap is widely used for flares, but as you described doesn’t always control the lower-level flaking. Usually, people will use a medicated shampoo for flaky scalp, possibly on a daily basis. There are a number of tar-based medicated shampoos that may help, but they can have a smell that some people find unpleasant. It may be worth looking at medicated dandruff shampoos, such as ‘Head and Shoulders’ although there are many ‘non-branded’ products, which provide the same effects. I assume you are under s GP or dermatologist for your care and prescriptions, so it may be worth asking for advice the next time you have an appointment and see if they can prescribe or recommend something suitable. You may also wish to speak to your local pharmacist, they often are very good at making recommendations. If you are not seeing a dermatologist, you may wish to get your GP to refer you, as they have access to therapies that your GP is unable to prescribe.
